Team Yandex kept the BLAST SLAM title it had won at the seventh edition, and it did so by the hardest route of any Dota 2 champion this season: its opponents averaged 4.8 in our table, and five of its seven series were against table clubs. It won 14 of its 19 maps.

The final on October 11 was a rematch with Team Spirit, which Yandex had already beaten the day before. Spirit won the first map in 40 minutes, then lost the next three; earlier that day it had come back from a map down against PARIVISION to reach the final.

All four table favourites finished in the top four, and the event was the fifth title of Yandex’s season, and no club has more. The pool, though, fell by a quarter from the previous edition, so the $270,000 for first place was well short of the $400,000 Yandex took at SLAM VII.
